Turnover of Communication Support

Groups from Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and PLDT-SMART Communications met with LGU Bauan for the turnover of communication support for Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System Project.

Bauan Municipal Administrator Atty. Ava C. Talag and Ma’am Belina Macuha-Montalbo, MDRRM Officer welcomed the visitors. On behalf of Mayor Ryanh Dolor, Atty. Talag thanked the partners for contriving the project as this was a rare opportunity and a much welcome development for the community. She said that Mayor Dolor was more than proud that Bauan will be of help by giving warning to risky areas from crucial data gathered through these devices that were installed in our locality

At the meeting, Mr. Rene “Butch” Meily, President of PDRF commended LGU Bauan for supporting the project by allocating location where the warning devices were to be installed during the initial phase of the project. He also recognized PLDT-Smart Communications for providing the necessary mobile data. In response, Ms. Stephanie Orlino the Assistant Vice President for Stakeholder Management of Smart, said that they are willing to support the LGU and PDRF by provision of the connectivity needed for facilitating data transfer. She reiterated that their company is also a willing partner especially during times of disaster by providing not only connectivity but also communications aid for a safe and “SMART” Philippines. The PDRF informed the group some updates on the initial testing and calibration done on the system last June 7.

Lastly on the agenda was the group’s visit and inspection of the early warning devices located at the premises of Bauan Evacuation Center in Barangay Manghinao Proper.
